江西电视指南频道，是全国首家地区性数字电视专业推广频道，是我省第一个电视节目指南频道，是江西唯一全省范围播出的免费数字电视频道。同时，江西电视指南频道也是一个覆盖江西省250万用户的地面模拟电视频道。
江西电视指南频道，是由江西信息台与江西广电网络公司共同投资，由中央电视台、上海文广集团等国内巨型广播电视媒体机构鼎立支持的数字电视推广服务频 道，其任务是"导游"数字电视，旨在成为全省最权威、最专业、最具影响力的电视指南频道。频道于2005年5月18日正式开播，开播以来一直受到全省各地 观众的关注和鼓励。
2003年6月，国家广电总局发布了《我国有线电视向数字化过渡时间表》，到2015年，有线电视将基本完成向数 字化过渡，整个有线电视网将停止传送模拟信号。2004年，中国数字电视产业已经取得突破性进展，发展数字电视用户达300万户，中国数字电视产业水平与 国际发达国家同步前进。电视媒体现在已经进入数字化时代， 数字电视正在成为众人瞩目的电视产业经济增长点和21世纪数字生活的必备。
有人比喻"电视是现代文明人的空气，数字电视则是氧气"，那么什么是数字电视呢？数字电视仅仅是技术上的晋级吗？答案是否定的，数字电视所带来的不仅是 技术上的革新，还有收视方式的革新，更是整个广电产业的革新。它具备双向交互功能，用户除了收看数字电视节目外，还可浏览各类图文信息、玩在线游戏等，还 可通过订购交互数字电视节目包升级成增强交互型数字电视机顶盒，实现大容量电影、电视剧在线实时点播功能，享受全面的交互电视服务。真正数字电视是能够集 公共传播、信息服务、文化娱乐、交流互动于一体的家庭多媒体信息终端。
