淮北电视台于1985年成立并正式开播。淮 北电视台拥有先进的电子摄录像制作设备，自办节目用九频道５千瓦发射机，发射天线海拔高度450米，信号覆盖苏、鲁、皖周边地区，方圆10000多平方公里，收视人口达3000多 万 人：自办节目每天从上午11：00开始至24：00结束，播出13小时市区各有线电视台均转播一台全套节目。
淮北电视台的节目以淮北地方新闻为主体，兼有其他各类专题、电视剧、电影以及广告、文 艺和服务性节目。淮北市电视台制作交流合作的专题《新地》获得９７年全国电视“金桥奖 ”提名，填补了安徽省的空白。
淮北电视台注意与国内影视界合作与交流，与全省和淮海经济区各电视台以及上海台、东方 台建立了长期合作交流关系。淮北电视台的许多节目除经常在省台、淮海经济区各台、上海台、东方台和中央电视台播出外，还远销海外，在北美占有一席之地。
