日照电视台是1987年10月经国家原广播电影电视部批准设立，当时是县级日照市台，1987年10月1日正式开播。1989年6月日照升格为地级市，日照电视台随之成为地市日照电视台。日照电视台是副县级的全民事业单位，下设办公室、总编室、新闻部、专题部、新闻评论部、经济部、文艺部、广告信息部、技术录制部、播出部、微波站11个部室。
日照电视台 自开播以来，始终围绕全党全国工作大局，把握正确的舆论导向，努力提高节目质量，加快事业发展，强化各项管理，加强队伍建设，促进了办公水平的不断提高。
现有职工100人，其中具有高级职称的14人，中级职称的35人，开办了新闻、专题、评论、经济、文艺等8个栏目，还与全国各家电视台和影视制作发行单位建立了密切的联系，不断引进思想性、知识性、娱乐性俱佳的节目，为广大电视观众提供丰富多彩的精神食粮。
