环球奇观频道2007年11月23日正式上星播出。环球奇观频道是国内唯一提供环球文化、科技动态和资讯服务的数字电视频道。它借鉴国外成熟商业电视的模式，注重节目的趣味性和娱乐性，充分满足观众的好奇心和探索兴趣。
环球奇观频道常设栏目包括：《环宇搜奇》、《乐酷生存》、《地球探秘》、《传奇人物》、《终极探索》；新推栏目有《艺铭东方》、《跟富老师学画画》、《茶无界》、《江南百桥图》、《食行天下》等。2013年频道节目更新达300多小时，节目编排更趋合理。
《环球奇观》频道秉承“环球览宇 奇行天下”的宗旨，将“文化奇观”作为视频内容的核心价值理念——在对自然灾难奇观的展示中，浸透着对生命的关爱和对自然的敬畏；在对现代工业文明奇观的描绘中，透露着对人类文明进步所带来的不良后果的隐忧；在对各国的历史文化遗存挖掘时，梳理出华夏文明与世界历史之间的文化脉络。
凭借独特的节目引进渠道和良好的市场运营机制，CRI《环球奇观》频道目前已在全国近300个地市落地，其中包括北京、江苏、山东、广东、浙江等主要地区，及其他经济发达地区。目前，频道可实现覆盖的有线数字电视用户约5000多万，其中北京地区的有线数字电视用户为350万。2013年1月28日，《环球奇观》频道又新增落地省份陕西。目前已实现全省网络覆盖，经测算频道新增加覆盖户数350万。
《环球奇观》频道开办7年来，连续获得中央数字电视平台 “最受目标观众好评频道”奖。2013年，原创节目《艺铭东方》等，获得中国广播电视协会数字频道颁发的一等奖一项，二等奖一项，三等奖两项。
