海南广播电视台公共频道(HNTV—2)创建于1982年8月，1984年10月1日正式播出，1989年6月升格为省级电视台。

现有5个演播室，其中1000、400平方米演播室正在逐步配备以数字切换台为中心的演播设备。节目制作将采用非线性编辑技术，节目传输将采用数字压缩技术。将逐步形成地面和空中传输网，以实现大范围、跨地区的信号覆盖。
