1999年12月6日，太视二套改版为《百姓频道》，进一步使频道专业化，整体节目的编排，都突出了贴近生活、贴近百姓的地方特色。现在太原电视台每天向观众提供的自制节目近20个小时，其中新闻、专题、信息、服务、文艺性拦目二十多个，可以满足不同观众的需要。太原电视台的节目质量在全国省会电视台中也尚属前列。近年来，获国家级政府奖42项，全国性电视奖96项。电视剧《天网》还获得了中宣部颁发的全国精神文明建设“五个一工程”奖。太原电视台获得全国广播电视系统先进集体单位称号。
