湖北卫视全称湖北电视台卫星频道，昵称长江台。1997年1月1日上星播出，覆盖人口8亿。
2012年，湖北卫视围绕“中国心·世界观”频道理念，以长江形象设计新台标，展现长江奔腾之势、两江汇流之意、湖北跨越之姿。
改版以来《我爱我的祖国》、《我的中国星》、《我为喜剧狂》、《如果爱》、《非正式会谈》等热门综艺节目创下同时段收视第一的好成绩，卫视主打三大剧场《早间剧场》《午后剧场》《长江剧场》，《长江剧场》是湖北卫视7：30晚间档王牌剧场。
湖北卫视自2012年四月以来，收视率始终位列全国省级卫视前十，崛起成为重要的新锐媒体。
