福建海峡电视台前身为东南电视台国际频道，于2005年1月25日开播。2005年10月1日，东南电视台国际频道正式更名为福建海峡电视台，呼号“海峡卫视”，是福建省广播影视集团旗下的以海外华人华侨和港澳台同胞为主要服务对象的电视频道。她以反映中华优秀文化的节目为依托，以丰富多彩的大型活动为特色，介绍中国悠久的历史、灿烂的文化、秀美的风光和崭新的社会精神风貌，达到潜移默化的宣传作用。节目以6小时为一单元，全天24小时滚动播出。 通过长城平台和亚洲平台，福建海峡电视台的节目在北美、东南亚和中国的台港澳地区都有很好的覆盖。目前在北美地区的有线用户已近30000户，并已通过有线网络覆盖福建全省。
